The Paperboy

A short film that was originally meant for Halloween 2001, the horrific events of September 11 put it on hold. With things approaching normal again, well as best they can, it has returned from the on hold status. You can stay up do date on the current status on this page.

A copy of the script is available for viewing, here.

Back issues: project history

The first time we talked about it, the idea was unclear, but the goal was simple. We were looking to get something on cable access for Halloween. As talks progressed we began to focus on a horror short. The basic idea was hammered out over the course of a week or so, with a rough draft following shortly. While the story is the same, the target audience has changed, currently we're considering film festivals along with self distribution. Cable access is still a very strong possibility.

Current Status

Things are moving along quickly all of a sudden. Basic storyboards are in the works. The music in being toyed with. Well, you can read for yourself.

04/25/2002: NOT a slow news day.

All of the Davis' house locations have been secured, that means that half the locations are set. We're also looking into another location, one in which all the action happens. Only 6 more to go.

Jimmy, Jimmy's Boss, The Old Woman, Dave, and Kevin have been cast. Only 3 more roles to fill. Things are starting to fall into place. Upon completion of casting and securing of the remaining locations things will be in full swing.

Jimmy will be getting his lifecasting done soon, Were-Chihuahua appliances will be following shortly after. With that, the fun begins!

05/14/2002: A little slower now, but still plugging away

Well, we're going to a few of the locations this week for some creative problem solving, lighting and sound issues to work on. Storyboards are about 1/2 finished, at least rough ones. They'll make it up here as soon as they're finished. The lifecasting might get squeezed in this weekend as well.

Mr. Stanley has been cast. Mrs. Persons may have been found, which just leaves Jimmy's mom.

Added a few pages with the cast and crew as well as "The Rest" which covers anything else that doesn't fall into the other categories.

05/19/2002: The rough storyboards are done!

Yes, and now they're on their way to the real storyboard artist. The lighting and sound problems are really non-problems. No lifecasting this week, trying to reschedule that for the near future.

We're still trying to take care of the final casting, but once that's worked out we'll be setting the shoot dates.

06/04/2002: There have been some shakeups, but nothing major.

There are some issues with a few of the locations, but we're trying to get them sorted out as soon as possible. Things are in a holding pattern right now until these issues get taken care of. The rough storyboards are up, and a very talent comic artist is refining my stick figures for me. Scheduling conflicts have postponed the lifecasting but with the end of the school year things should get moving right away. The whole process is interesting none the less.

07/06/2002: Well, I guess "NO!" would best describe things lately.

Locations may very well be my death, they're still the biggest problem right now. Conflicting schedules and lack of communication have also proven to be a bit of a problem. I've been a little busy with other projects so I haven't had the time to dedicate to my poor "pet" project.

10/07/2002: OK, things ARE going to change, this I swear!

Well, with some festival deadlines coming up we're going to start from scratch, again. Casting, locations, crew, everything. As soon as things are in place you'll see them here, have faith.

11/03/2002: Well, at least things here are busy.

What that means is The Paperboy has been pushed back again.  I'd rather be busy on paying jobs then working on a pet project of my own for nothing but personal satisfaction.  If something major happens between now and spring I'll consider making it this year, but I'd rather push it back and wait to make something better when I have the time.
