Wolverine Claws
OK, here are a couple of scans to help you out (hopefully)
since I couldn't find pictures with any good detail

Like I said before the mounting plate was vacuformed PETG into
the mold (tricky to do, especially on a home built machine/table...probably
easier to do over a plaster positive) The claws are polystyrene
insulation carved down into the rough shape, then coated with wood glue
(to protect them during the next step) which was coating them in polyester
resin
after they dried I sanded them "smooth" and squared
off the ends a bit, then held them in place in the vacuformed piece
via an elaborate rigging or clay and knowledge of teeter-totter physics.
;) I filled the VF'd piece with bondo auto body filler
so that the claws would "snap" into and out of the hand pieces, and
waited for it to dry...i must say that the polyester resin needs to
be coated with Vaseline or another release so that it doesn't bond to
the bondo, which is the same basic material with some fillers added...anyway
after that I took the claws out, cleaned everything up and painted it
all, then after that I cut the slits for the Velcro. It is the
hook and the loop parts sewn together so that when you wrap it around
they uh, "Velcro" together..
Hope that helps you figure it out a little bit better.
Here's a pic of the claws rough shaped in foam, set
in a clay sculpture of the "thingy" on a (bad) hand cast, thought
this might help out a little too.
